Summary

After hearing about the Fractal North Pi case, I had to print one for my Home Assistant Pi 5.

What started out with modding the main body to fit the SSD HAT, ended up in making a full Home Assistant Edition.

Here you will find only the modded parts, though. For everything else, see the block quote below.

The main body from here is only required, if you want a 2280 SSD, like with the 52Pi N04 HAT. It's still a PITA to get in and you will need longer screws than they include. However, once it sits, it fits.

Then there's the side panel. I printed mine with a non-uniform scale to Z=2.8mm to get it in a bit easier. Therefore it's not flush in the picture. You may want to scale down the insert to like 98% uniform for the same reason. I decided not to use it to provide a bit more airflow to the SSD. Thanks to stjohnny3D, btw, for providing the STL that I used as a template.

Last but not least, we have the front bars. Just print them as they are. I intentionally made a single STL out of the left and right bars, for easier further remixing. The middle bar needs to be printed on its own, though. For the different colors, pause your print before the layers at Z=11mm and Z=12.8mm for the respective filament changes.

To get the fans running, I cut off their plugs twisted both + around a 5V pin and soldered them into an eyelet, that can be shimmed between the Pi and its HAT without touching any neighboring pins. While I was at it, I soldered a female Dupont to both - and plugged that onto an unused ground pin. Have some shrinking tubes ready, if you want to do this as well, in order to avoid shorts.

Now, we need to address the legal stuff: I did, of course, ask Fractal support if I am allowed to publish my remix here. (Ticket ID #274401 from 2024-08-08) They replied:

Thank you for your e-mail and your interest in Fractal!

Our 3D Print files for the North Pi project are available for everyone to download in our website.

I am very happy that they gave their permit and would like to thank them very much.
