Summary

Update: Just posted V3! Duct tape and plumber's putty no longer required! Thumb rest added. Pitch improved. Fipple adjusted for improved volume.

While drooling over european web pages of beautifully handcrafted basset, great bass, and lower recorders, I realized that a basset recorder bore folded enough times could technically fit onto the bed of my Ender 3 printer.

At that point I should have chuckled at the thought and continue with the needful activities of the day. Instead I decided to actually design and build the blasted thing.

This initial version is mostly a proof of concept. It is not yet truly playable, either ergonomically or acoustically, but it does make sounds. And they are approximately recorder sounds. And they are at approximately the intended pitches. I have hopes that design improvements could yield a playable instrument.

I mostly am sharing this early version of the design for the benefit of others dabbling in DIY wind instrument design. Still, my design goals were largely achieved:
-Devise mind-assaulting fingerings
-Imbue the instrument with the graceful form of a concrete garden stepping stone
-Ensure the instrument is physically uncomfortable to play
-Incorporate duct tape and plumber's putty
