Summary

This is very much a work in progress!! It's up here for other people to inspect and review, rather than download and build. I have not finished designing it yet. 'Nightly' versions are available on Github. OpenSCAD and Blender files are also available on Github.

Skinny-B is a flying wing UAV platform and is designed for primarily for long range and stability. It has a wing span of 130cm and will be able to carry cameras and all the usual electronics found in UAV/FPV planes.

The prop size could be as large as 12 inches, the motor cavity could hold a 35mm outrunner and the belly-mounted avionics tray is capacious. The battery compartment has been designed to hold a 3S 5000mAh lipo which should give it over 30mins of flight time.

Most of the structure of this aircraft is printable with a 200 x 200 build area with 160mm of height. The fuselage and wing tips come in about a dozen pieces that can all be glued together. The wings have 15 printable ribs per side.

One interesting feature of this plane is that it doesn't use horns and rods to connect the servos to the flight controls. The servos connect directly to the elevons so that the rotation of the servo directly moves the controls up and down. Having no horns and rods reduces drag and makes the plane a bit more robust and reliable. The trade off is that there is no mechanical adjustment for trim or throw. I think 99.9% of people would be able to adjust trim and throw electronically using their RC transmitters, autopilots or FPV gear of choice.

The total empty weight of the aircraft is 735g but since most of the parts require supports, this plane will require over 1kg of PLA to build. It may require fiberglass reinforcement in areas - will find out when I actually build one.
