This is the third and final version of my fishing reel design and 3D print. I liked the last version, but still thought it could be improved by making it mountable on a rod or stick. Towards that end, I moved the ratcheting button from the top to the back and added a block to the top that you can use to tie the assembly to a rod or stick easily.
To move the button, I had to completely redesign it. I also learned a few things. The "spring" on the button is now curved, which makes it a lot more flexible. And then I doubled it, using two spring tabs to get the strength I needed without the brittlness of a single tab.
Finally, instead of leaving the front open, I enclosed it and used a smaller hole with rounded edges up front.
I have already printed and tested this setup and it works well. I made a few more final tweaks to perfect it and will be posting the pictures of the final assembly when its done.
For assembly, you'll need 11 x 3mmx12mm self taping screws for the body and spool pieces, and one 3mmx20mm screw for the handle.
