Summary

DISCLAIMER IF YOU BUILT THIS:
I'm actually shortcircuiting a LiPo Battery. I haven't measured the resistance of the nichrome wire when it glows, but please do not press the button for more than 1-2 seconds!

Today I built a prototype of one of these real fireball shooting magic Harry Potter wands, that many of us have seen in youtube shorts shortly.

The mechanism is pretty easy if you use pyro paper.

Feel free to ask questions or make suggestions for improvements in the comments! I could also change the STL so other diameters of pipes would fit, just ask in the comments!

I printed the shaft without supports and the handle and bar with supports, everything 0.2mm layer height with 20% infill with PLA.

See this video of the process:

Material I used:

  • regular black PLA Filament
  • a metal pipe (in my case a metal straw with 8mm diameter)
  • nichrome wire (I used 0.2mm, but it happens that it breaks, but other diameters haven't worked until now)
  • 3.7 V lithium battery
  • a piece of regular cable/wire
  • button switch
  • pyro paper I've found on german eBay

Machines used:

  • 3d printer: Ender 3 S1
  • welding station
