A Filament Spool Holder that can simply be slotted on the top frame of a prusa i3 printer (or similar). Can be 3D printed or lasercut. A simple marker or pencil can serve as a rod that the spool runs on.
There is a hole that was originally meant to have the filament threaded through it. But I keep the front plate on the other way around and don't use the hole as it adds resistance to the filament.
Dimensions:
The pieces can be put together to fit filament spools of different width.
The parts are cut from 6mm strong wood and the printer frame it attaches to has the same width. Also it is quite a loose fit.
Please note: If you have a tall extruder that moves past the upper frame, it may bump into this spool holder. If you fear this might happen then reduce the max Z height to avoid collisions.
Lasercutting:
Please note that the .dxf files for lasercutting were created using Fusion 360 which uses more complex splines. Therefore some programs like inkscape cannot correctly open the .dxf files. For lasercutting I included RDworks versions as well.
