The objective of this project was to develop an affordable filament storage system that enhances the functionality of existing DIY solutions. This system is designed to be fully 3D-printable without requiring supports and can be easily assembled without the use of screws. There is also no need to damage the box by drilling holes into it. Alternative glue-free designs were explored but proved unnecessarily complex. By accepting minimal gluing and sanding, the system prioritizes operational convenience and time efficiency, offering significant practical benefits.
With careful sourcing of materials, the production cost per storage box remains low. Key improvements include the box's versatility—it can be repurposed for other uses when no longer needed for filament storage. The design allows for direct printing within the box, with a TPU gasket sealing the filament outlet to prevent moisture ingress during operation. Additionally, there is no need to rewind the filament back into the box after printing. The filament can simply be inserted through the lid opening, and the box can be securely sealed using the gasket on the PTFE tube.
