A simple filament cleaner/lubricator to help with your 3d printer.
I've seen many designs, but decided to make my own. Self-sufficiency is key!
Print 2 of these, cut some sponge to go in the alcoves. ~A spot of oil on the sponges helps with lubrication~, then attach around your filament with zip ties (just above the extruder)
Voila! Less dirt, and less extruder stepper skipping!
Although designed with 1.75mm filament in mind, I have better experience scaling to 115% before printing :/
Lubrication is a BAD idea, I discovered. Although it appears to stop extruder stepper skipping, the oil clogs up in the throat of the hot end, and I ended up with a severe blockage of burnt oil, and PLA that had "gone weird". It took about 45 minutes to unclear that mess, so I will not be using oil again! Plain sponge does still help keep foreign matter out of the hot-end, so it is still a net-win to use this (or something similar)
