Summary

This is a fake VGA housing that you'd put a more conventional (iPhone Lightning, micro USB, USB-C) charge cable into. You'll have people doing double-takes at the obviously-VGA cable plugged into the bottom of your phone or tablet.

There are four variants of this design:

  • One for a specific Amazon Basics iPhone cable. This happens to be the cable I have the most of around the house.
  • One with a fairly generic-sized opening that should fit a variety of cables. Because it's not designed for any one cable, you will have to use some glue, epoxy, Sugru, or other adhesive to get the cable to stick in there.
  • One with a cylindrical passthrough. This isn't realistically sized for cables, but provided as an example.
  • A completely solid version for remixing in your own ways. Maybe that's for different brands of cable. Maybe that's for some entirely different project.

There are two ways to remix this for your own cables. You can take the solid STL file and edit it directly in your CAD program of choice. If you're familiar with OpenSCAD (or would like to learn), then you can take some measurements and plug them into the source. Take a look at the measurement image for more detail.

The source code for this design makes use of the Knurled Surface Finishing Library, also here on Thingiverse.
