Alternative main landing gear mount for Freewing F-35 V3 Lightning 2. I broke the OEM mount as shown during a rough landing. This design reinforces the location of the fracture and provides additional support to the retract servo mounting flange. It is a remix of John Kallend's design concept. I clean sheet modeled the design which I am sharing so the geometries are not likely the same. John's main support blocks are also used in this build, but are not required. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=44052269
The OEM main mount was well adhered to the foam with contact cement. I removed it with a narrow nose vice grip. Work around the sides slowly pulling the plastic edges away from the foam similar to a canopy removal.
Prep the printed main mount by precision drilling the holes. You can avoid getting glue in the four threaded holes by limiting the drill depth and leaving the back side closed off. I drilled with 2.1mm, 11mm deep, followed by 2.2mm, 6mm deep. Thread the mount holes by installing the OEM screws. Stop ~3mm short so the screws depth is similar to when the retract and metal plate are in place.
Using a sharp hobby knife, remove just enough foam to accommodate the thicker flange and screw bosses. When installed, the contact face of the mounting flange should be in the exact same place and the OEM version.
Test fit the main mount to the retract servo and the aircraft. I used FoamTac to adhere the main mount to the foam. Re-assemble the main gear same as the OEM assembly.
