Exercise model for reciprocal frameworks.
This model was created for an educational exercise with reciprocal frameworks. It is a structural system whose members carry each other. This leads to a reciprocal dependence. A key advantage of these structures is the usage of short beams only, in contrast to conventional hierarchical systems.
The pictures show structures which are made from the same beam. There are two basic configurations: clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW). Repeating the basic cell creates larger grids. There's also a third configuration, where both cells can be mixed similar to a checkerboard pattern.
To properly demonstrate the load bearing ability of the reciprocal framework, there are also supports included, which will lift the structure.
Geometry was created using Rhino.
Rendered with Blender3D/Cycles.
