Summary

This remix started when I stumbled across this impressive model but realized that to achieve the scale it deserved I'd need to slice it up into sections. I also wanted to pack in a bit more detail and interest into the model so I opted for using the Greebles plugin for 3ds max (source: http://max.klanky.com/plugins.htm). The topology for the original model leaved a lot to be desired so I decided to clean up a lot of the top side faces before applying the Greebles modifier. I've also opted for using support rods throughout most of the major sections of the ship to give it that extra rigidity and strength come glue time (or if you want to feel like a ship builder give friction welding a go!) After Greebling (If it's not a term I'll coin it) the ship I exported it to netfabb for slicing and repair work. Please note that the files aren't to scale or correct orientation. The best orientation is having the largest flat side on the print bed which should use the least support required come slicing (as per screenshots). I had to scale each piece to 25% to fit my standard FlashForge Pro print bed. You will need to use support in whatever slicer you use and I strongly recommend Simplify 3d (known for fast slicing). Even on my G3258 OC to 4.5ghz slicing took between 5-10 mins on some of the more complex sections :/ You have been warned!

Original model poly count is around 200k, greebles ups this to nearly 8 million. I'm not sure what the finally tally is after netfabb cleanup.

I'm currently printing Part03 and it's going for over 20 hours so far and looks to be just over half done! So I might have to fine tune the speed a bit more.

I'm sure someone out there has an army of bots to print each part out simultaneously. Be very interested to see their results. Open to hear feedback, but please be kind as it's my first remix attempt of any kind.
