Summary

This project is called the Everyday Innovation Challenge. This project is completed in a middle school Technology Education class where students focus on the Engineering Design Process. The purpose of this project is to give students an opportunity to apply the design process and their creativity to innovate common everyday products. The challenge is to look at common everyday items (like a coffee mug, a comb, toothbrush, etc.) and create a way using 3D printing to innovate this product. Thingiverse is ripe with examples of people who have redesigned a common everyday product to add functionality, to look different, or just for entertainment. The idea is redesign something simple to practice the design process and to gain experience with 3D modeling and 3D printing. The model that is uploaded is just an example of one student model. this is an example of a student project that involved the student attempting to combine a hairbrush and comb with 3D printing. The final product will all depend on what your students create! No 2 final products should be the same! That is the beauty of this challenge.
