This is a 3D model of the fin of the Estes Doorknob kit. All dimensions were derived from the fin in the kit.
This kit is 1:5.3 in scale per the kit. It uses Pro Series II 3.0 inch (76.2mm) tubing. OD is 3.0 inches= 76.2mm, ID is 2.93 inches = 74.42mm. Fin thickness is about 3.2mm.
There are six files:
1-2: Fin that is flat with and without the tab.
3-4: Fin that has an airfoil with and without the tab.
5-6: Fin making templates with and without the tab.
*Note: Make sure that when scratch building your own fins with balsa or basswood the grain of the wood is oriented with the leading edge of the fin.
*Note: Thingiverse maker, Aslansmonkey, has done a remix of the fin with the airfoil by splitting it in half in order to make it easier to print.
