Summary

Creality Ender 5 extruder arm.

Device used to reposition the extruder so that the Bowden tube can be drastically shortened.

  • Shorter Bowden tube = less retraction needed = less stringing.
  • Easier access to the extruder itself.
  • Flat top for your own enclosure design. (*)

(*) If you build an enclosure, the way the cable moves in a flat plane will allow you to reduce the height of your enclosure top.

The device is held to the printer with the original extruder attaches.
The extruder is attached to the device using 2 wood type screws with flat heads:

  • Screw diameter min 3.0 mm, max 4.5 mm.

Note: You might need a stepper motor extension cable depending on the length of your original cable that was cut in factory. Length on mine was just enough but some users reported that theirs was a bit too short...

Note 2: Cooling of the extruder motor is less efficient than the original position which benefits from some cooling via the aluminium frame. Therefore, consider adding a heat exchanger if you want to push your printer to its maximum print speed capabilities.

Concerning the filament feeding, 2 possible setups are visible on the pictures:

  • Using the original spool mount attached on top of the frame, facing backwards.
  • Using a Bowden tube linked to a dry filament box:
    • Uses an extra Bowden connector.
    • Needed to drill the extruder filament hole in order to screw the connector in place.

Two versions are available:

  • The simple original design.
  • The new design featuring convection cooling slots to help improving heat dissipation of the motor.

Enjoy! :)
