Summary

Ender 3 V3 KE Spool and Filament Sensor Mod

The first mod I did to this machine was to move the spool off the top to a dry box sitting next to the machine. This has been a great mod, but I wanted to enclose the printer, so I needed a new mod. I didn’t have luck finding a good mod to use a PTFE/Bowden tube straight to the filament sensor, so I designed a simple mod solution.

Mount Block: Screws into the frame where the stock spool holder was originally mounted. Can use original hardware. I made 2 designs, one to mount the sensor vertically and the other horizontally. I am using the vertical set-up.

Filament Sensor Adapter: After printing I was able to thread in the tube connector easily with one of the wrenches that came with the printer’s tool kit. I printed this in both PETG and PLA+ and had no issues threading it in. Once the connector is installed you will need to remove the top screw from the sensor and slide the adapter over. Install an M3 20mm screw into the filament sensor hole.

Use the original hardware and install the filament sensor to the mounting block. Route your tubing and you’re all set.

Additional Hardware Required:

M3x20mm Screw – 1ea
PTFE/Bowden Tube – Cut to length.
PC4-M6 PTFE Tube Connector (one with the blue end) – 1ea

Optional

M3x10mm Screw – 1ea

I replaced the screw that mounts the sensor to the top block with a 10mm M3. It allows the sensor to rotate with the print head better. Totally optional.

Enjoy!

P.S. I am still using the filament guide on the side or my printer from my first mod which can be found here. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6522683.
