VERSION 2
Here is a new UNIVERSAL dial gauge holder which allows gauges of different size to be securely mounted. The stem is held away from the body in a v-clamp and an adjustment screw stops the body tilting backwards during use.Thank you
BullzLabz for the feedback.
VERSION 1
Some small improvements to the excellent must-have Dial Gauge Holder by Mike Guyre:
- Added more end-stops to seat the holder more squarely
- Moved the gauge mounting hole back a little so the rear of the gauge sits flat against the mounts (see caveats below)
- Added clamping feature (M3) to fix the gauge in place
- Pretty sure dial-gauge bodies are different thicknesses, so this design won't work uniformly, so please advise other dimensions and I'll add more versions.
See images for required SHAFT DIAMETER and SHAFT DISTANCE (from shaft surface to rear face) dimensions in mm. These are currently ~dia 8mm for the shaft and the distance to the back is ~4.33mm.
USE
Run the bed up to temperature. Once you've set the dial gauge vertically (Z-axis), do not move X (extruder) and Y (bed) axis by hand: only use software control! That eliminates extraneous vertical forces that can introduce errors.
