Summary

NB! Because this design relies on tight fit tolerances, please be sure to calibrate your printer before attempting! Otherwise there's a good chance tools may not fit properly.

UPDATE 3/23/22: Two versions of the upper and lower drawers (with/without tool holders) are now available. NOTE: The lower drawer will not be tall enough to hold the MicroSD card reader. There just isn't space to make it fit.

UPDATE 3/19/22: Updated the upper drawer with thicker/stronger/reinforced tool stays. Also added FreeCad source file.

Another remix of the original Ender 3 / Ender 3 Pro behind-the-LCD tool holder! This remix has two main features:

First, the main tool holder drawer has been redesigned for easier access and less vibration while printing:

  • Each tool's pegs have been rearranged to better hold tools in place
  • Wrenches sit on small shelves to make it easier to pick them up
  • Screwdriver has 4 pegs to hold it in place
  • Allen wrenches sit on shelves with stops to hold them in place

Second, the holder's height has been extended! For those like me whose Ender 3 does not sit directly on the table top (and as a consequence has extra clearance), the vertical size of the holder has been extended to allow room for an extra drawer or space for another tool!

My particular printer sits atop these damper feet -- so a special "cutout" version of the holder and the lower drawer is included that should clear the feet but still provide the extended space (see photos). In addition, the feet are attached to foam/felt furniture sliders I purchased on Amazon.

Finally, every drawer has tabs at either side of its front to prevent the drawer from pushing through the holder. The holder has small cutouts to accommodate the tabs so that the drawer is flush when closed.

I made no modifications to the nozzle tray.

The main variants you might want to print are:
1) Holder.stl - Drawer Upper.stl - Nozzle Tray.stl: Like the original design but with redesigned holders for the printer's tools
2) Holder Extended.stl - Drawer Upper.stl - Nozzle Tray.stl - Drawer Lower.stl (optional): Like variant 1 but with an extra drawer/tray
3) Holder Extended with Cutout.stl - Drawer Upper.stl - Nozzle Tray.stl - Drawer Lower with Cutout.stl (optional): Like variant 2 but with a cutout to allow clearance for damper feet
