After our last few posts, we were asked multiple times about fail safes. We've listened and want to give our emergency key design away for free. I am proud to describe it as tamper evident and reusable, something I have not seen in an instant release before.
We wanted to create something that could be used many times whilst remaining as secure as possible. The design uses an internal latch system to allow instant access to the keys inside, although putting them back in without unlocking the device is a different story.
The device can be used by first inserting the emergency pin, followed by a key to push it into place. Then the cap can be inserted and locked into place. Given the design it is very easy to quickly retrieve the keys whilst also making it impossible to replace them without removing the cap. We've also experimented with scaling it up or down depending on key size and have had little to no issues. This is still an early design and I would love ideas on ways to improve it.
