Summary

Spring-Clip Locking

Elfa's clever "spring-clip" hook design is used for a solid and secure attachment to their "Utility Board" (pegboard-equivalent) or Upright Mounted Standard bars. This hook design clips securely straight into the board, yet is easily removed by lifting up on the hook and pulling out from the bottom. I like the Elfa slot design over simple pegboard holes, since the slot allows stronger plastic parts from 3D printing. Several hook/bracket designs are included here for your use and inspiration.

I've also tested the fit with similar vertical rail systems like Closetmaid ShelfTrack, Rubbermaid FastTrack, and Blue Hawk. Rubbermaid's tolerances may affect fit on some rails. But these parts were really designed for the Elfa utility board system.

Update 12/22/2019: I've added a thing to provide flexible support for more horizontal tool racks, loops, and small shelves, using the same back spring-hooks. See "Modular Tool Racks for Elfa Utility Board."

Strong No-Support Printing

This Thing is a series of hooks and bars designed specifically for easy, clean, and strong 3D parts with the spring clip printed flat on the printer bed for best strength with no supports required.

Specialty Notes

Racks: I use the ElfaRulerRack bracket in pairs, not only for rulers, but for model sanding sticks (emery boards) - really, anything long and flat. If it matters to you, you can mirror this part in your slicer on the printer bed to create a reciprocal pair, with alternating flat sides, like I did in the photos. The "ElfaFlatRack-3x" is similar, but has only 3 racks spaced farther apart for thicker items (like the mini-wrenches shown).

Parts Bin Bracket: For an inexpensive alternative to pegboard parts bins, the "ElfaHuskyBinHook" is a bracket to hold a small parts bin, the Husky brand "Small Stackable Click Bins" available at Home Depot (SKU #715492). A pack of 4 bins is about $6. Two brackets are used, and they fit into the mounting screw slots on the back of the bin. You can leave the brackets attached to the utility board, and easily remove/replace the bin, for easy access to contents.

Source Files for Customization

Source CAD files are provided for your own easy customization, using FreeCAD. Instructions are below if you want to try your hand at customizing these hooks for your own specific needs. Even if you don't have or desire any CAD experience, it is relatively easy to create some interesting variations with simple numeric edits. If you do try a remix, please link it here - I'd be interested in seeing pegboard organization ideas from other people!
