Summary

Portable Air Conditioners are great but come with two major issues. First, they usually come with a single hose, so they waste energy by taking cool air and rejecting it outside. Second, they may be hard to seal properly, that is, connecting the ducts to the outside while preventing hot air from entering, further wasting energy. This project aims at mitigating both issues.

The project includes:

Below are instructions for making the project.

Dual hose conversion:

  • Print or build an appropriate backplate for dual hose conversion. I'd suggest looking at thing:4519681, thing:5421906 or thing:6745319 depending on your A/C model and/or printer build area (custom plate model included here for convenience).
  • Print or purchase 3 additional hose connectors. I'd suggest printing 2 PLA hoses for inlet using thing:4519730 (model included here for convenience) and printing an additional PETG one for completing outlet. Alternatively, you can purchase outlet connectors directly from Electrolux, part number #4055413712 (French, non-affilated link)
  • Purchase an additional 15cm x 1.5m hose, Electrolux part number #4055349213 (French, non-affilated link) or your local store, Amazon, AliExpress, etc.

In single hose setup, you'll still need one additional connector for outlet hose.

Making seal kit:

  • Make or purchase a plastic board of correct thickness for your shutter rail, cutting it wide enough for inserting in the rail without too much effort while still sealing correctly.
  • Pierce holes of adequate diameter for adding seal connectors.
  • Assemble seal connectors. They are made of 3 parts: connector, nut and ring. I've included the models here for convenience. I'd highly recommend adding a mosquito net to prevent insects or big particles from being sucked inside the air conditioner... or just entering the room when no hose is connected.
  • Add adhesive bottom seal strip. This the same adhesive strip you can put on garage doors for better sealing.

In single hose setup, pierce only one hole and install only one connector.

Install your new seal kit and profit!
