Summary

Wing Vortex Generators for the Durafly Tundra. Hobby King released the Grand Tundra with vortex generators on the top of the wing so I made these vortex generators for my regular Durafly Tundra.

Researching Vortex Generators I read several publications which stated the vortex should be between 12-15 degrees offset from the airflow. Not one publication had a solid formula for designing vortex generators. I decided on 12 degrees to reduce drag.

Heigth of 4mm of the VG was determined by taking a measurement of 1% of the wing chord (200mm x 1%=2mm) I added 2mm to that amount so the VG is crossing into the boundary layer.

Length of the VG was determined by Height x 3.8=Length (4mm x 3.8=15.2mm)

Distance from Leading End. Several publication state 7-16% from LE

Distance between VG. I read a publication which stated (Distance=10 x VG Height). D=10 x 4mm, D=40mm. Don't know if this publication is accurate.

How many to install. Some publications state to install from end to end and other state to install only the outer 1/2 of the wing to prevent tip stalls. It's up to you how many you install. Post your results in the comments.

Sand the bottom of the vortex generator with 100 grit sand paper a few times and clean mating surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. Use E6000 glue and clamp in place over night.
