Summary

STORY TIME

In search of improving my Y axis acceleration, there was an idea “Why don't we add one more stepper to Y axis ?”

So searching further if anyone had the same idea and done it before, i stumbled upon this reddit post by reddit user 1yrik who was working on finding an answer for 2 year old unanswered question

1yrik had it working with improved accel so that was a green flag for me to go through with the idea

The motor mount which 1yrik designed is stationary and moves over Y axis extrusion to adjust the tension on the belts

This limited the amount of travel of Bed due to Dual linear rail mount and was difficult to adjust tension (less flexibility similar to default tensioner)

Hence designed this Motor mount with tensioner based on my Edge Y axis tensioner

Disclaimer

This mod is an easy addon if you already have kevinakasam's Ender 3 linear rail mod since the bed mount raises the mount height a bit and default ender 3 belt tensioner will cause issue with more tension to belt in the far ends causing damage to belt.

This mod makes sure the belt is parallel to the Y axis extrusion so tension is same for the belt from end to end of the extrusion

Print Settings

  • Atleast PETG (Preferrably ABS since stepper can run hot)
  • Gyroid infill @ 50%
  • 4 Walls
  • 4 Top and Bottom

Assembly Instructions

Step 1 : Use 4 * M3 x 12mm bolt to secure stepper to tensioner body

Step 2 : Use M5 x 40mm and GT2 idler pulley

Step 3 : Mount the stepper assembly to aluminium extrusion

Step 4 : Connect both assembly

Step 5 : Connect GT2 Idler and use M5 nut in the knob to mount on the guide

Step 6 : Use 2 * M5 x 35mm Bolt and nut to secure the assembly
