Summary

Simply DIY spectrometer built using a regular webcamera.

I built this as I needed to get the spectral data of the reflectivity for some pigments I'm developing but didn't find any designs of these DIY spectrometers that was setup to do that. This design is setup to be modular and easily configurable.

===============================================================

Besides the printed parts it needs

1 webcamera you can take apart
I'd link the one I used but the listing no longer shows the same camera but most any should work fine

1 M3 bolt (10-20mm long) and nut to mount the camera bracket

1 diffraction grating slide, I used the 1000 lines/mm and that works fine

4+ 5mm white LEDs (or your preferred light source for your use)
I initially just used 4 but then designed a housing that could fit 12 but never used it.

your preferred adhesive to mount the camera (I used hot glue)

Some black tape (I used gaffers tape)
This is to seal up any openings where wires go in/out of the enclosure or mounting razor blades

2 razor blades (optional) These are to make the light slight much more precise/narrow

A known light source for calibration (optional)
I used a fluorescent lamp and the mercury peaks, but lasers can work too.

Software:
There are a lot of options

SpectralWorkBench
The site seems to be gone but there are links to the archive versions of it's browser based spectrometer software. This was the easiest to use as it just works in the browser with basically not setup, but it doesn't offer an calibration options to get acurrate nano meter measurements as far as I can tell.

Theremino Spectrometer
I found this one to be more configurable to align the spectra. Though you have to dig a bit on the website to find it, it should be on the linked page but you have to scroll down to find it.

Spectragryph
I didn't end up using this one but it's another available option I wanted to link
