Summary

This is a DIY light ring made from LED light strip segments. The base positions them all symmetrically. It was designed around this strip (see link), but any 8mm wide by 100 mm long segments (or shorter) should work. Designed for the entire five meters (so 50 strips) as I wanted a brighter ring than I could buy cheaply, but you could add fewer.

It's built pretty ruggedly and a tripod mount is integrated (just a holder for a 1/4-20 nut).

I used PETG as that will give more temperature resistance when soldering or from waste heat, but perhaps you can get away with PLA. If that works out, LMK! The model is 296 mm in diameter, so may require being split up on smaller printers.

I recommend clipping the corners of the strips (snipping off positive on one end and negative on the other) so that bare wire can be used as that makes it a lot quicker to solder (see pictures). Snipping and sticking the strips down took about an hour, but it's mindless so you can listen to a podcast or whathaveyou. Soldering took an additional 30 minutes or so. Be aware that not all the segments will be exactly the same length, owing to manufacturing tolerances.

Marking this a work in progress as I need to add a diffuser and perhaps some handles so those models may be added later (though I'll keep them separate from the main ring as options). Won't add a specific phone holder model as they vary so widely. Easy enough to glue one on the back if desired.

Step version is included to facilitate modification.
