Summary

This is an extended leg for a DIY laser engraver using 20X40 mm frame in order to lift the frame to work on larger thickness pieces that extend beyond the frame. I designed this to allow a long piece of 1" thick lumber to fit below the engraver. In the future I will be making adjustable legs.

UPDATE: After printing and installing, I found that 1) These are way too tall, I have added a version that has been shortened by 20mm 2) By making them universal (leg orientation) and making them corner pieces, it reduces the travel on the Y axis of the engraver. The next version will be more narrow, and soon after I will be making adjustable legs that will allow a good range of height changes.

UPDATE 2: I have made a new version of the universal leg which does not wrap around the corner, this allows for full travel of the X-gantry. Designed for M4 screws to secure to work surface. The next update should be an adjustable version. I am going to try several different methods to make it adjustable, so bear with me as I try out different methods.

UPDATE 3: I have made an adjustable leg. The mount for it wraps around the 2040 frame for stability, and is adjustable in 15mm increments up to around 110mm from the work surface. I am in the process of printing both the mount and leg now, the first trial print of the leg and locking mechanism worked well. ***In order to make it work, you must print 2 "ADJ MOUNT" and 2 "ADJ MOUNT MIRROR". Because of the offset for the screws, I couldn't make them universal for any corner.

Please let me know of any improvements I can make, or any ideas in design change. I have toyed with the idea of a screw-type adjustable leg, but it seems that the ability to dial in the height to a very fine amount does not justify having to check height/level on each corner to get it just right. If that is desired though, I will create one like that, it is a fairly simple change to make.
