Intro and intention
This is the companion piece that will go with the other Disney Magic Band readers in the 3D printing space. Just let's you have the finger print assembly like at the entrance to the parks to go along with your 3D printed Magic Band Reader. Right now there are a couple models of magic band reader projects but the one I designed this piece to work with is the outer shell from user: emccarron and the link is here, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4549215
And that shell is design to work with the front parts and the clear parts from user: foolishmortalbuilders and the link is here, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4460759
Again what I have done is designed a close approximation companion piece that it the finger print scanner with support arm like you see at the front gates to the Disney parks. I designed this in Sketchup. I have attached the STL files here as well as screen shots of the model from Sketchup and some of the inspiration photos.
The intent of this project is to first get a functional model and then modifiy and incorperate the electronics already out there in projects to work with the Magic Band reader as well as the finger print reader. I intend for the finger print reader to light up in a ready state once you scan you Magic Band, and the trigger once you place your finger on the glass. Probably with a digital sensor of some kind but I do not plan to actually add in a function print reader. That sounds like lot of work. I just what to have something to trigger the rest of the lighting and sound effects like you would expereince when walking into the Disney parks.

- Work has been a little busy and haven't been able to tinker as much as I like. I printed out a new version of every piece as uploaded in V.2. The unit itself looked really good. Except that the cut out in the post for the Magic Band reader sphere wasn't deep enough and the two halfs of the sphere didn't come together perfectly. So I have uploaded a V2.5 of the post.
I also wasn't super happy with the proportions of the Magic Band sphere to the Finger Print Reader unit. I think the body needed to be elongated a little. So I have uploaded V2.5 with a 1.25" longer finger print reader base and the base plate.
Finally I have still be test printing the clear piece of the finger print reader in PLA. With the little bit of linear expansion of that piece and the little bit of shrinkage of the opening in the reader face plate I shortened the clear piece 1/16" at each end to see if that helps. I am not an expert 3D printer by any means, this piece may elude me and it may end up being a translucent epoxy or even injecting hot glue in the opening. I have some old test pieces that I will running that experiment on soon.
Files are updated. And here is a photo of my current test print before I start printing 2.5 tonight.

- I made some changes to basically all the models, the STL files. I have uploaded V2 files. I have shortened the magic band reader holder post to be more to scale with the rest. I as well added a half inch hole through the post and the plug to be able to past wires between the electronics without drilling, half inch might be oversized but once I print I can down size it. I have added some screw points to the base so that you can use some m2/m3 corse threaded screws to hold the post plug and the post in place, verse having to glue them. I didn't add holes for this in the plug or post, drill in place for your screws. I made changes to the flag on the reader plate so that it prints a little better with supports and the supports don't overly fuse to the model. The base plate is unchanged.
I wasn't real happy with the pieces related to the post and the post plug. Combined them into one single piece with 1 half inch hole down through it for wiring.
Realized I didn't add a wiring pass through on the base. Added that and reuploaded to V2.1.

- Right now this is very much a work in progress project. But I have every intention of regular updates all the way through final model design and the electronics work. I will share as much as I can as often as I can. I do want to be clear, I don't have precise measurements of the physical device found at the Disney parks. I am going off photos and memory of going through and using them. So let's call it what it is, an approximation or likeness. Right now I have what I believe to be the design I like at a good scale/size. I am printing as I type this. Just with very little infill and as quick as I can to check rough fitment. This will be the first time I will have the outter shell printed with the post hold it up. I am a little unsure if the post is the correct length.Once that is finalized I will start to print at better settings with a bronze or copper metallic PLA, or maybe a Bronze, Silver or Copper Silk PLA. Undecided yet. I actually haven't used that material before. And I will use PETG clear or transparent white for the light up portions. I thought about a white epoxy but just don't know yet.
