Summary

2019-12-01 - New version of all models uploaded! The new designs resolve basically any fit issues related to variance in dice actual size vs nominal.

Details

Six sides per holder. Securely holds the nominal size of dice with room for variance from manufacturer to manufacturer. Always be sure if you're missing even a single die from now on.

Currently, I have the following sizes and counts available here:

8mm dice

  • 36ct (6 per side)
  • 54ct (9 per side)
  • 60ct (10 per side)

12mm dice

  • 36ct (6 per side)
  • 54ct (9 per side)
  • 60ct (10 per side)

16mm dice

  • 36ct (6 per side)
  • 54ct (9 per side)
  • 60ct (10 per side)

The different sizes (8mm, 12mm, 16mm) are not just scaled, but rather redesigned for each size of dice to make sure they fit as well as they can and still support a broad range of dice manufacturers.

Every size and quantity is well tested and the latest updates are based on over a year of testing and feedback from friends, family, and the community, here. Expect some play between the top of your dice and the lid. This is to accommodate for the (qty * actual dimension) of the largest dice that will fit for each size and quantity.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues and please consider posting your make!

Change Log

2019-12-01:

  • Complete redesign of geometry and tolerances to ensure a secure fit for nearly any dice manufacturer.
  • All sizes of holders support dice of nominal size +/-0.4mm in either direction of nominal, which covers all but the extreme ends of the bell curve on actual size vs nominal size, based on a large amount of testing and research.

2019-03-02:

  • All variants can now be printed without supports. (Thanks for the suggestion, @steedo!)
  • Added 8mm variant.

Assembly & use

The hole through the middle is designed to accommodate a length of 1/8in (~3.2mm) shock cord, doubled over, with a double hole cord lock on the lid side, and an overhand bend knot on the other end, to keep the cord in place. The overhand knot fits neatly up in the enlarged hole on the non-lid end, allowing the holder to sit upright while in use. I find a 15in. (38cm) length of cord is just about perfect for the 12mm 54ct model. Remember to finish the ends of your cord.

Please consider uploading a picture of yours if you print this thing to help others decide if it's right for them.

Cheers!

Motivation

I keep three colors of 12mm chessex dice, (red, green, and gray), for MtG so I can easily represent positive and negative effects (like +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters), and neutral counters (like energy). I wanted a carrier that could hold an even number of each of the three colors.

I also wanted something that made it easier to notice if I'm missing any dice while also making it easy to find the color I need. No more scooping a handful from the Crown Royal bag and hoping for the best. =)

This thing is inspired by another design that I really liked, but is an original design of my own.
