For my students' end of the semester project, I challenged them to design a desktop organizer. The program they used was Autodesk Inventor.
My goal for all of the projects that I assign is for my students to design a product that has some sort of use. I try to avoid small nic-nacs if at all possible.
It was very rewarding to see my students get excited about creating this project. They were all very serious about getting all of there measurements exactly right, while also accounting for 3D printer tolerances. I was very happy with the overall results.
