Summary

The Delonghi Dedica EC685 is an simple and good looking entrance machine for the world of espresso making. BUT only if you modify it here and there. If you are like me and don’t want to spend to much money for making a solid espresso/coffee you really need to research a lot.
Somewhat good machines start at around 400€, which is way above my budget. With around 150€ for the Dedica EC685 you get a pretty cheap espresso maker, the emphasis lies on „cheap“. You get what you pay for.
But as I said before, after you have upgraded the right parts and built up a good working system, you are good to go to make a full-bodied and tasty cup of coffee.

Therefore, I created this guid for making the the Delonghi a somewhat perfect machine in that price range if you combine it with the right tools.

What you need are a few essential upgrades, some you need to buy some you can print.

  1. good coffee
  2. new bottomless portafilter
  3. decent coffee grinder
  4. the right weight-coareness-time-ratio
  5. a proper tamper
  6. some organizers, ranging from bag clip to knock off tray

I wrote for everything a little paragraph down below as a little guideline. Especially the ratio part goes pretty deeply into using the right amounts for making the perfect espresso on this machine. I even provided a formula for making the coffee.

Enjoy reading and trying out the prints!
