Summary

Deadwood 1876 is a nice game, and the antique book design of the box is lovely, but really Facade Games, a coupla' cents more for a molded plastic insert instead of the card-stock one would have been a nicer touch. Ah well, this is why we have 3D printers, after all.

I made some tweaks to Greenalert's nifty Deadwood 1876 Insert to suit my own tastes.

Specifically:

  • I removed the embossed text. I wasn't a fan of it, and it printed sloppily at a higher resolution.
  • I made it a tiny bit narrower on the X & Y as it was gouging the box going in.
  • I made all walls and the bottom thinner (2mm). This saves a little material, but has the most significant benefit of giving more space for the components.
  • I made the whole thing a little taller on the Z. This give more space for components.
  • I rejiggered the width of the left and right component boxes so that a deck with a rubber band around it would easily fit. Please note, one box is intentionally a little bigger than the other.
  • As I have a Monoprice Select Mini, I had to chop the thing in half to print it. I had originally intended to add slots in the mating faces, and splints to join and glue them, but damned if this doesn't just fit and sit nicely in the box without them. Feel free to glue them if you like, but it really doesn't need it.

I'm including two versions of this model:

  • A split version with left and right pieces for smaller format printers.
  • A whole version that can be printed as a single piece for lager format printers.

If you're like me (and if you are, I'm so sorry), you've also collected the other two games in Facade Games' Dark Cities series. As they did the same shenanigans with card-stock inserts for those, I built box inserts for those as well (from the ground-up, as I'd already worked the final kinks out with this one).
