Summary

This is a calibration print for cement, clay, geopolymer, earth or similar materials provided to accelerate the development of printable cementitious materials.
This shape was designed to print with a single wall in "spiral" or "vase" mode to avoid creating a seam.

Use skirt rings to purge material when printing sequential compositions. Increase number of rings for additional material before printing test

Original Scale was 400mm wide, 120mm deep and 200mm high but these dimensions can be adjusted to fit your printer or modify test limits of strength and overhang.

This shape is a simplified adaptation of polymer calibration tests with the following features:

  • Material for 6x flexural strength prisms, 6x split tensile cylinders and many compressive strength cubes via saw cutting or core drilling (respectively) or waterjet.
  • As-printed compressive strength of bottom layers; adjustable with print speed
  • Overhang capability
  • First layer flow calibration
  • A fully-filled second layer can seal the structure to test water-holding capability
  • Bridging test square on top layer

  • One half of this this shape might be useful as a "corbel" type element added to large 3D printed projects. This corbel element could be removed after printing and used to generate test specimens for each layer represented.

Nov.24.2024 Update** increased width for more specimen area. Reduced overhang for 30mm wide x 10mm high bead; Added top square with 2x layers to test bridge capability.

V1 is a bit thin on the top outer edges, will need a thin layer thickness with a wide bead to hold shape.
