Summary

This design is now defunct. If you're thinking of going e3d v6 its a good idea to also get a titan extruder as it will fit in much better and loose less z height. If you choose to replace the extruder with a pancake motor you can reduce the weight without having to go through the hassle of messing with bowden.

Simple, easy to install E3D V6 mount for a Da Vinci 1.0

PROS:

  • no drilling
  • no cutting
  • no permanent modifications required to the printer itself.

CONS:

  • you will lose about 4cm in height.
  • you need to play with fire, (the mount is a little tight and needs encouragement to fit)

Instructions:

  • Print.
  • Remove extruder.
  • Take out 4 bolts on each side holding the metal block.
  • Heat one part of the mount, (i used a cooking blow torch), press heatsink into mount.
  • Heat other side, press together.
  • Add 2 x M5 bolts + nuts, apply heat as required.
  • Bolt where the metal block used to be.
  • Use soldering iron, melt small holes in the bottom of the mount (look at the original metal block for reference)
  • If it doesn't fit, you may need to also use the above mentioned soldering iron to take a bit off the top of the extruder to help it clear the extruder gears.

If this is actually useful to people I may consider shortening the top and adding the bottom holes to make it easier to install.

Otherwise consider this done.

Side note:

I used the da vinci heater as its 35w compared to the e3d heater which is 30w and to avoid calibration issues, I reused the da vinci thermistor, you need to put it in the larger hole (intended for the screw) and find a smaller screw ( that goes where the thermistor is supposed to go) to hold it in ( as per the cover photo)
