Summary

This is a slotted cylindrical container that I use to hold Desiccant for my filament storage system. It is designed to fit in the spindle area of the filament spool.

I have made three sizes:

  • 19mm Diameter which should fit Taulman spools. (I've never tested it personally)
  • 30mm Diameter which fits my Hatchbox spools.
  • 50mm Diameter which fits my Orb Polymer spools.

The slots are 1.5mm wide so it should hold Desiccant spheres larger than that without spillage. I've noticed that broken desiccant spheres will still slip out, so as long as you haven't crushed your desiccant it should work.

The lid is press fit and the 3D printed layers kind of zipper together and hold the lid on tightly. I've added some finger nail slots to the lid so it is easier to remove.

On a side note I vacuum seal my filament spools in Waring 2-Gallon vacuum seal bags, part number WVS2GL. The bag size is 19.2 x 12.1 x 0.1 inches. I usually only do one spool but I can fit two of the standard size Hatchbox spools in each bag. I use the Waring Pro Pistol part number WPVS2000SA to vaccum seal the bags and it works really well. The gun and the bags can be found on Amazon.com.

Enjoy!

If you like the containers let me know, and if you use them for things other than desiccant post a picture!

Update 01/12/2017: I have added a 19mm size to fit Taulman spools. I also increased the amount of material between slots to make it stronger.
