Summary

I found that QuanTom's "Futuristic Christmas Tree" was a very interesting tealight LED candle cover for the comming festive days.
I wanted to change its size (easy to do) and shape (not so easy), so I redesigned it with OpenSCAD...

V1.2 update:

  • Corrected some bugs that appeared when the candle light simulation was active with the newer OpenSCAD versions.
  • Added a seventh tree model (similar to #5, but with steeper angles)

There are some boolean switches in the source file (which should be set to 'true' or 'false') :

HIDECANDLE: Shows or hides the candle in the preview window so that you can check that your tree design will not interfere with the tealight led candle.

COVERBASE: If set, a 'sleeve' will be generated over the candle base (as you can see in the pictures)

SIMPLEBASE : If set to 'false' and COVERBASE is also true, the base sleeve will have a wavy shape, giving it some elasticity.

Then, there are some variables you can change:

TreeIdx: Set this from 1 to n, n being the last tree description in the "Trees" descriptor vector. I provide here 7 different trees. The first two ones are larger and are more like the original one designed by QuanTom.

Trees: This is the trees description vector. See the source file comments to understand the values. You can add a new one yourself and experiment with its values (do not forget to set TreeIdx to the index of the new tree descriptor you create).

Take care to check the "CandleBD" value and to adjust it to the external diameter of your LED candles. Usually the external shell of these candles is slightly conical. If you use a value between the smaller and the larger candle diameter, then the generated 'sleeve' wil lock itself over the candle base and the candle will not 'fall' into the printed tree if you push it (slighty).

Merry Christmas (in advance) to everyone! Stay safe...
