Summary

Cryohabitat

A group of scientists have successfully frozen sperm from 16 different coral species, using liquid nitrogen. The process is called cryopreservation and the purpose is to “save” the species before they go extinct. The idea is to thaw them in the future and reintroduce them to their natural habitat, but that requires global warming to be reduced. While waiting for this, the cryohabitat will be their new home.

This is a project by Marcus Nystrand at Beckmans College of Design. These 16 coral species were 3D-modeled, printed and placed in a physical interpretation of the cryohabitat, for an exhibition at Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm. Feel free to use these models however you like. They are all ready for 3D-print and digital use.
