20180514 Update

  • A "slim-fit" version of clamps, named as "WM_CRUSH_V2R_Clamp", is uploaded and recommended than the previous design. If the fit is too tight, you can still use the old "regular-fit" version named as "WM_CRUSH_V2_Clamp".

20171211 Update

  • A new base assembly of CRUSH is tested and uploaded, to create a highly stable universal version. This rail track design can support filament spools with various width from 25 mm to 95 mm.

20171128 Update

  • A sturdy securing clamp design is tested and uploaded, to further reduce the chance of a tip-over due to human errors.
  • A 125.5 mm variant of CRUSH part A and B (suggested by user @bdietrich7) is uploaded, as well as a longer base model.

20170803 Update

  • The original CRUSH (V1) was tested with 1 kg Makergeeks filament spool but some users reported incompatibility with other brands. Therefore a new design (V2) is presented to possibly accommodate all popular 1 kg spools (eSun/Inland, Hatchbox, Makergeeks, Silver, Taulman tested).

Introduction

CRUSH (CR-10 Ultimate Spool Holder) is a complete redesign of TUSH (The Ultimate Spool Holder) to fit on the control box of a Creality CR-10 printer. With base parts printed, CRUSH can be universally used on any 3D printer.

Design

The original TUSH is a wonderful design with a major drawback: when the filament is pulled rapidly in an angled direction, TUSH and the spool on it are likely to tip over. Instability exists on some other remixes that attempt to adapt TUSH for CR-10. CRUSH crushed (sorry, had to do it) this tip-over problem with higher barricades and a better locking mechanism, but without adding more material. The Warren-truss design of the barricade adds not only stability but also some engineering aesthetics.

Installation

CRUSH is easy to print and install. Please measure the horizontal span of your CR-10 control box before choosing to print the 124.5 mm, 125.5 mm, or 126 mm version, as control boxes from different vendors may not share the same dimensions.

CRUSH CR-10 Version

Print the following items to use CRUSH on a CR-10 control box:

  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_XXX.Xmm_A
  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_XXX.Xmm_B
  • 4 x WM_CRUSH_V2R_Clamp or WM_CRUSH_V2R_Clamp (optional but highly recommended)

CRUSH Universal Version

Print the following items to use CRUSH on any flat surface:

  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_XXX.Xmm_A
  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_XXX.Xmm_B
  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_Base_A
  • 2 x WM_CRUSH_V2_Base_B

Once you finish printing all necessary items, just snap everything together following the preview images. Enjoy!
