I dunno who this Cropy is, but his engineering skills suck. I also donโ€™t know why youโ€™d want to use a spider with the CR-6, but this hobby isnโ€™t about why, itโ€™s about why notโ€ฆand why not is โ€œprobably because itโ€™s a pain in the butt for minimal improvement.โ€ I Cropy designed this thing because I Cropy tried a few other adapters, but they were all really loose or softened with heat or something like that. I forget Cropy forgot, probably due to all of the rage in redesigning/reprinting this thing like 50 times to get it to work right.

This stupid thing uses M3 screws and heat-set inserts, and a couple of standoffs. It might work without the inserts, but hopefully your skills putting said inserts in are better than mine and you donโ€™t have to test that. It also hopefully works without the standoffs, but I have two in forโ€ฆreasons that I canโ€™t remember, but I know were important at some point so they have to stay there, right?

Youโ€™ll probably have to play around with the leveling sensitivity POT, and if you have a direct drive mountโ€ฆwell, you might have issues with aligning the extruder like I did. It still (mostly) works, but thereโ€™s some possible issues that Iโ€™m...er, Cropy is still working on.

Materials needed:

2x M3x6mm screws

  • For the gauge attachment. If you want it to be extra stable, you can use extra-long screws and let them dig into the spider, but why would you want to do that? Iโ€™m totally not dumb and didnโ€™t do this twice. It does help, though.

2x M3x8mm(?) standoffs.

  • Forโ€ฆsome reason. Used between the gauge thingy and the carriage.

10x M3 heat-set inserts. (or 30 if you suck at putting the inserts in like I do)

  • One for Every Hole!โ„ข Even the ones behind the hotend.

2x M3x30 screws.

  • For holding the hotend actually in the adapter. You might be able to use M3x25 screws, and if so, this might be what lets you skip using the standoffs. Or maybe your hotend will just stick out at an angle, with the bigger screws, iunno.

4x M3x12mm screws.

  • To hold the fan in. You can probably get away with only using two like I did (which totally wasnโ€™t because I broke half the fan adapter part off while trying to install it).
You might be able to get away with using a 4020 fan if you can get away with not using the standoffs that are used for some reason, but I havenโ€™t tested that. Yet.

This thing might let you use other like-sized standard hotends, but I havenโ€™t tested that either. I only has the one Spider and my other randomly-assorted hotends totally arenโ€™t 13 inches away in a drawer right underneath the printer.
