Keeping Insects Hydrated

Insects need a constant source of water to stay hydrated. They can get moisture from fruits, but these need to be replaced daily as they will eventually rot. Leaving rotting fruit in the enclosure can be dangerous, so it is best to provide a drinking water source.

Traditional drinking bowls for insects can be dangerous, as small individuals can easily drown in them. This can lead to the death of the entire colony.

The Cricket Water Dish I made is a safe and effective way to keep your insects hydrated. It is designed to prevent drowning, while the large water capacity will ensure that they have enough water for more than a week.

Print the Cricket & Insect Water & Feeding Dishes in PLA, a safe and non-toxic material.

How to use the Cricket Water Dish

  1. Fill the Water Bottle with fresh clean filtered water
(Tap water may contain chlorine and other chemicals that's not good for your insects.)
  2. You may need to add water to the tray initially to break the water surface tension.
After that, water should flow on its own.
  3. Place the water Dish in the insect enclosure.
  4. Monitor the water level and refill as needed.

Here are some additional tips for keeping insects hydrated:

Place the water dish in a shady spot to prevent the water from evaporating too quickly.
Clean the water & food dishes regularly to prevent the build-up of bacteria.
Replace the water every week, even if it looks clean.
By following these tips, you can help ensure that your insects stay hydrated and healthy.
