I found the new shoes I bought wouldn't work well and the cleat needed spacing out from the sole.
I made these to do the job.
I found that to avoid twisting due to the extra leverage the countersunk bolts had to be done up very tight. I needed up using bolts with Torx heads to be able to do them up tight enough
