Update 1-4-2018:
I received a couple of request for edits on this design. I finally had some time to edit these request. The files are not yet tested as i'm now using my Ulitmate Z box design that is based on this 1st design.
This thing now has 4 different versions:
Personally i recommend the original design. It smaller, and uses less materials.
I understand this is compatible with multiple Creality models and even a TEVO model.
Original instructions:
Stepper dampers make a huge difference in the sound levels of 3D printers. A small disadvantage is that the flexible dampers can bend resulting a a belt not running straight of the gear.
A solution is to mount a 2nd damper on the back of the NEMA17 stepper. For the Y axis there are already a few designs on thingiverse. I recommend Scolle_'s design. The bending problem is smaller on the X axis, but i wanted to fix this anyway.
This design can easily be added to any CR-10 without removing to much parts. It does however require turning the stepper 90deg. so the connector on the stepper can be reached. I'm considering editing the model to remove this is enough people request this.
I'm also considering other mods like a filament guidance. To me however this design is just a proof of concept as i will be making a new one supporting a drag chain and connection box for the hotend wires. At this poin i'm not sure when such a design will be finished.
IMPORTANT: I'm sure not a stepper dampers are created equal. The thickness of the damper is important to the design. I used dampers i bought on aliexpress. Seller name is Funssor. These are approx 6mm thick excluding the center ring.
