Summary

Compact bearing spinner can be used as a toy or a fidget (good for nervous hands) with following

Pros

  • Compact size fits more hands
  • High resolution of .stl files for smooth curves
  • Rounded edges for better feeling
  • Smart and mature design
  • You can sell your prints because of friendly license

1. Bearings

You need four 608 (single-row radial ball) bearings. Cheap ones seems to be sufficient. Quality bearings spin better (SKF® shoud be the best). Brand is more important than ABEC class. Hybrid ceramic bearing bring incredible spinning time.

  • 608 (without dust shield - visible balls) OK
  • 608 ZZ / 2Z (dust shield on both sides) OK
  • 608 2RS (sealed) worse but usable

Where to find bearings?

  • Skateboard shop
  • Sport shop with Inline skates
  • Specialized shop with bearings
  • Somewhere on the internet

How to prepare bearings?

I recommend to wash cheap bearings before use with fine-grained lubricant like WD40 to ged rid of factory vaseline and get lower friction i.e. longer spin time 20s+. Spray and spin the bearing few times guarantee the best result. Only downside is little bit noise when spinning. Sloppy wash brings some compromise.

2. Print

Print 1x spinner body and 2x bearing caps for center bearing or 8x caps to cover all of them.
Recommended Print Settings:
Infill: 20%
Resolution: 0.2 - 0.1
Perimeters: 3
Solid layers: 3
Supports: No

3. After Print

  • Press one bearing into center hole first through top side of the print
  • After that press rest of them (use sand paper if necessary or soften holes by heat before press)
  • Add caps
  • Share your print
  • Enjoy ;)
