This is a direct fit for the USA Trains GP38-2. It slides over the long hood and is fastened with the same screws as the standard cab. You will need to cut the 2 sections indicated.
The biggest challenge in making a nice model with FDM printing is getting rid of the layer lines to enable a smooth finish. This is far easier to do when the surfaces are flat with no raised details.
I've been developing a method of construction using a combination of FDM and SLA resin parts. The basic shell of the cab in 3 parts for ease of smoothing. Once that is smooth then the resin detail parts (that don't need to be smoothed) are added.
FDM printed parts: Main Cab, Roof, Rear, Crew door, Gaskets and Snow shields.
SLA printed parts: Light, Battery Doors, Number Boards, Nose doors, Bell, Antenna, and Sand hatches.
Grabs are formed from 17Ga steel wire.
Crew door hinges and drip edge made from strip polystyrene.
