Summary

There are 3 files needed to build the chess board. You will need to 3D print:

  • 32 x Chess Board Squares in color A
    • This is 40mm wide, but the square itself is 35mm.
  • 32 x Chess Board Squares in color B
    • This is 40mm wide, but the square itself is 35mm.
  • 2 x Chess Board Rail (Male) in any color
    • This is 296mm long.
  • 2 x Chess Board Rail (Female) in any color
    • This is 296mm long.

It's a good idea to print one or two pieces first to see if they'll fit. If your 3D prints typically have "elephant's foot" then you may have to trim the dovetail joints... Printing a piece in color A, and another in color B, then one of each type of rail is a good test.

The maximum squares I printed at once on my Creality CR-10 was about 27 or so, but that was because I printed a few beforehand for testing.

The pieces should fit nice and snug, and once the board is complete, it's very sturdy to carry vertically, and a little floppy if carrying horizontally, so if you move it around in a completed state, carrying it vertically is the way to go! I hope you enjoy this design.

It's fun to put together!
