Summary

This is a Full hood and cover made for the Celestron Rasa 8".
I couldn't find anyone who made a spiked hood for free so decided to design my own.
I have pretty weak designing skill so i'm sure it can be further optimized.

Let me know if you'd like the source file to make improvements i'd be happy to share (granted the remixed improvement is also uploaded for free)

I printed in PLA but might as well print in PETG for durability.

  • There are holes for cables that should allow any USB A port through (so naturally also DC cables)
One might want to print some TPU covers to block light from entering through those holes.
  • The spikes are 6mm thick, and thin as i felt comfortable printing, but looking back they can be thinner based on the cables you have (the thinner the less the spikes diffract (dotted RGB pattern))
  • I made the cover pretty thin to save on material, and it might get a little distorted after removing from the build plate.
  • This can be mounted in 0 Degrees, or 45 degrees for "+" spikes or "x" spikes.

The goal is to use cable ties or Velcro to secure the cables in strategic spots that wont interfere in the light path (see images)
It's mounted using friction, and holds on pretty tight.

I used a Bambu lab P1S, so build plate should at least be as big since on the P1S it was barely enough to fit.
Part height is 170mm.

Print orientation: Spikes facing down.
