This is an adapter designed to mate the Celestron AVX mount (and similar) to the early-2000s NexStar tripods that came standard with the Nexstar 6 and 8 inch SCTs.
Simply mount this adapter to the tripod using 3 M8 x 1.25mm (25mm length) hex screws and mount the AVX with a M10 x 1.50mm (>=70mm length) screw through the underside of the tripod. You may need to drill a hole in the center of your tripod for this to work. No other modifications are necessary, although the AVX mount with a 8 inch SCT likely weights more than the tripod is designed to handle.
To improve the stiffness of the tripod, I've also made some simple spacers available for download (see my other post).
Regardless, this setup worked great for the few months I didn't have a 2" steel tripod for my AVX. Since this part bears considerable weight, I highly recommend printing in PLA+ or ABS at >=40% infill with 5 walls.
