The file 'Cattedrale Di Santa Maria Del Fiore 3D Printer Model' is (stl) file type, size is 4.7 MB.
The Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower), is the main church of Florence, Italy. Construction began in 1296, and was not completed until 1436 until development of new structural materials in the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed.
I chose this structure, not only because of the vast beauty, but the complexity, and scale for the time of its construction.
I have considered designing this cathedral in the past, and this challenge gave me the perfect opportunity to do just that!
The above photos acted as references, and guidelines to aid my design of this structure. By no means is my design exact, but feel free to compare!
The purpose its split into two, is obviously to see the interior! If you wish to display the model you can close and/or open the model as you see fit! Who wouldn't want to see both the inside, AND outside of this beautiful structure!
I have been attempting to print the model for the past two days...and due to a damaged part, and a clog issue in my printer, I'm unable to get this print done by the deadline date. I must fix this issue first, and I fear I may need some replacement parts...By some miracle that I can get my printer to finish the model, I will be posting pictures of the 3D printed model itself.
The model was designed completely in Google sketchup Make. It was a fun, long, and often frustrating ride to get this model finished. I am confident in my design, and I stand by it when I say, go ahead and print it! If there are any issues, let me know, I'll be sure to modify the file as needed.
Please share your photos if you print it! I'd love to see others enjoying my work! :)
UPDATE - Combined both STL files into a single structure (internals removed).
