Summary

A long, elegant, lightweight ornament for the tree, this is a cross between an icicle and a ball I call “Stretch.”

It has complex geometry based on the cathedrals of Europe. Rotate it - it looks different from every angle! With my settings, it weighs just 8.5g.

This is the second in a series of four “cathedral” ornament designs. This season, I plan to publish one Christmas ornament a day. Follow me to stay up to keep up to date.

I originally printed my stretch ornaments in 2 pieces, but then took the time to design custom supports that allow it to be printed as just one piece. It's not only easier, the final print looks much better. The included supports work well for many filaments, but you should closely watch the print for the first 20 mm in case the gap between the supports and the ornament is too large. If you see the ornament wobble as it prints, cancel the print and use XY Size Compensation to increase the external size of the supports. I'd try 0.1 – 0.15mm to start.

I've included my PrusaSlicer project file and GCODE for a Prusa MK3S+ printer. For details on all my print settings, check out my Thangs Blog!
