Carcano M91-28 Muzzle Cover.

Designed to prevent damage to the crown of the muzzle and the front sight post during storage and transport. After making the rifle safe and clear, simply slide the cover over the muzzle and past the front sight base, twist, and push to lock into place. Rifle make and model embossed on the sight cover for ease of identification.

*A note about rifle identification;

The Carcano M91-28 and M91-24 share similar features. The M91-24 rifles were originally M91 infantry long rifles that were later shortened and rebuilt as carbines. The M91-28 designation was given to rifles that were factory built as carbines. The best way to determine the correct designation of your rifle is to take a look at the rear sight block and leaf. If your rifle has the longer rear sight leaf, then it's an M91-24. If your rifle has the short rear sight block then it's an M91-28.
