The Chevy Bowtie Logo thingy came off of my 2014 Captiva. I first replaced it with some metallic vinyl but it faded to white. So I tried to find it online (amazon) but those things are like $50. Nope. So I decided to engineer one. Welp, it was much more difficult than I thought it would be. Instead of just being flat, the place where it goes has both a bend, and a curvature which follows the tailgate. So gluing a flat bowtie was not going to work. So I did that and even tho it's not perfect, it's pretty close, close enough to glue it on. Here's hoping the slapwash doesn't knock this one off - it probably will - but now I can replace it again if I have to. I made an edge around the outside so I will probably paint silver in that edge - not sure if I'll bother. Anyway, nothing is ever perfect but I figure this looks better than an ugly empty spot missing the logo! I made it two piece because the bend and curve means it's won't sit flat on the print bed. So I cut in in half to make two pieces that must be superglued together. It seems to stick out more than the original but still I think it looks OK and good enough for me. I printed it with 0.1mm layer height and then sanded it some by rubbing it on the sidewalk (I'm cheap) then painted it with 3 coats of goldish-brown paint and then two coats of gold metallic paint. Someone who cares more than me would probably bondo it and sand it glass smooth before painting. I figure from a distance, only the most discerning would notice. Hey! That's 3d printed! And they didn't bondo and sand it glass smooth before painting! UGLY! UGLY! UGLY!!! Naw, I can't imagine there will be too many out there like that so... good enough beats perfect! Also, I printed it in ABS with the hopes that it will survive the heat better than PLA would. I guess we'll see. I scraped the area mostly clean of the vinyl and previous goo with a small glass widget scraping tool and then used a two part epoxy to glue it on. It seems to be holding well for now.
